Brief Description

Astwell Augers are based near Thrapston and are looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Apprentice to help out with building screw conveyers. You will also help out in all areas of the workshop and dispatch department. You will be paint spraying, fork lift driving (if correct age), loading & unloading lorries and using a variety of machines.

Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role you will ideally need to have GCSE grades 9-3 (A*- D) in English and maths or the ability to work towards Level 2 Functional Skills during the programme.

As an apprentice you will learn everything about what goes into the manufacture of Screw Conveyers including; Cutting, Machining, Fabricating, Welding, and Fitting the machines together. Please keep reading for more details about this vacancy and what you will be doing in this role.

A Screw Conveyer/Auger is like an Archimedes Screw which is used for moving granular products along a tube or trough, think of the spout that sticks out of the side of a combined harvester. That is an Auger.

In this job role you will be:

Cutting - this involves selecting the right metal for the job and using a band saw, chop saw or guillotine, cutting the metal to an accuracy within millimeters.

Machining- using a variety of machines such as Lathe, Milling Machine, Pillar Drill, Punch. These machines have an accuracy of Thousandths of an inch.

Fabricating - involves a variety of skills including cutting, folding, rolling metal, turning (on the Lathe), welding and finally fitting the machine together, ready for dispatch to the customers.

You will help in the dispatch department, paint spraying, fork lift driving, (if you are the correct age to drive a fork lift), loading and unloading lorries.

You will help out in all areas of the workshop wherever you can safely.

Other Information

There are 20 days holiday, 3 have to be held back for Christmas, plus Bank Holidays. As Astwell Augers are an employee owned company, there is an annual bonus depending on the state of finances. Employees are entitled to this scheme after a year.
Overtime is available depending on the flow of work we have at the time.

Salary will reviewed on a regular basis.

Please check the location, the company are not particularly easy to get to being on the Westbound carriage way of the A14 without transport. However there is a way to the employer via the back roads with a pushbike.
