Brief Description

Typically the work covers a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviors.

Qualifications Required

The applicant should be educated to a minimum of GCSE level with 5 GCSEs achieved / predicted at A-C or 4 - 9 grade in maths, English and science (or equivalent).

You should have an enthusiastic and genuine interest in engineering and be willing to study an Advanced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Apprenticeship giving an NVQ and EAL qualification upon completion. The applicant should also be flexible and adaptable to be able to work within any production unit in the Plant.

Personal Qualities

The applicant must be driven and committed to achieve with a keen sense for problem solving and being hands on with equipment with a willingness to learn and take instruction.

Skills Required

Strong problem solving skills is essential for you to be successful, as well as the ability to work independently and also as a part of a high performing team.

Training to be Provided

Year 1 – 5 days a week in College completing a level 2 foundation competency qualification, starting a level 3 knowledge qualification and a 3-day gateway assessment at the end of the year.

Year 2 – 1 day a week in College, 4 days in the workplace. The day in College is to complete the level 3 knowledge qualification.

Year 3 – 5 days a week in the workplace compiling evidence to demonstrate competency.

Year 4 – 5 days a week in the workplace compiling evidence to demonstrate competency and an end point assessment.

Level 3 NVQ in one of a number of forms of Engineering.
Level 3 Diploma in one of a number of forms of Engineering
Or
HNC in one of a number of forms of Engineering

Future Prospects

Engineering Technicians ensure that equipment is maintained to a standard necessary for the production of high value manufactured products. Typically the work covers a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviors across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.
This is a four year advanced apprenticeship.

Year 1 – 5 days a week in College completing a level 2 foundation competency qualification, starting a level 3 knowledge qualification and a 3-day gateway assessment at the end of the year.

Year 2 – 1 day a week in College, 4 days in the workplace. The day in College is to complete the level 3 knowledge qualification.

Year 3 – 5 days a week in the workplace compiling evidence to demonstrate competency.

Year 4 – 5 days a week in the workplace compiling evidence to demonstrate competency and an end point assessment.

Other Information

All Engineering apprenticeship applicants must attend an Engineering Assessment Day at Bedford College, Brunel Road. The next running session will be the 26th July 2018, 9-12pm. We will contact you with the details of this event once we have reviewed your application.
Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team and complete an online maths and English test which will be sent out prior to your initial interview if you meet the entry criteria. Please note this is part of the recruitment process and must be completed in order for your application to be progressed to the next stage.

The vacancy will be working in the manufacturing plant and will involve shift work.
