Brief Description

The property apprentice will work along with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Services property team in their daily activities whilst undertaking the Level 3 Business Administration course.

Qualifications Required

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs or equivalent A*-C / 9-4 including English and maths.

Future Prospects

Following on from the completion of the Business Administration course the apprentice will be enrolled on a 2 year Level 4 Construction Management course. This will require 1 day per week release for college attendance.

Vacancy Detail

The property apprentice will work along with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Services property team in their daily activities whilst undertaking the Level 3 Business Administration course.

The successful candidate will undertake an 18 month Level 3 Business Administration course which will not require college attendance, (learning will be undertaken at Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service with the tutor attending our offices for assessments, etc.). On-the-job training will occur relevant to Business Administration concurrently with the Property Team also giving the apprentice an introduction to the technical aspects of the department’s functions, the main duties of this role will be as follows:

- Updating of departmental databases in line with departmental requirements using the ICT systems and paper records held. Maintain databases and client file records to high standards and ensure that all deadlines are met.
- Attending Authority sites and buildings as directed to diagnose small repair requirements, reporting these back to the Property Services team.
- Attending site visits, inspections and surveys undertaken by the Property Manager and Property Support Officer and assisting in the preparation of site notes and sketches for later use in compiling works specifications and drawings.
- General administrative transactions to include; filing, photocopying, scanning, creating basic letters, collating storing and processing of information and archiving.
- Supporting the Property Manager and Property Support Officer with the preparation of project specific specifications and drawings.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, requesting information, as required. Tasks may include; taking phone calls and messages, responding to emails, creating letters and faxing.
- You will be required to observe, deliver, continually promote and act in accordance with the Authority’s policies and procedures at all times.
- You will also be required to carry out all duties in accordance with legal requirements specifically but not limited to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Ensure compliance with the Authority’s policies, procedures and financial regulations. Under the supervision of the Property Manager ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory bodies as well as with best practice principles.
- To undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required.
- To attend such training/personal development courses as may be considered necessary.
- The post holder is required to comply with relevant health and safety legislation and the Service policies and procedures of Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority in the performance of his/her duties. This includes the requirement to take reasonable care of themselves and others affected by their work activities, use equipment correctly and apply safe-working practices effectively, to remove or minimise risk of accident, injury or ill health.
- Practice and promote equality and diversity and the fair and equitable treatment of all staff and customers within the scope of the post.
- To support and participate in the formulation of standards and procedures for quality management and customer care expectations.

Salary is dependant on age ranging from £8103.00 per annum to £15,106.31 per annum.

Other Information

This role will primarily be based at Headquarters Kempston in a office environment, however there will be a requirement to attend other sites in the county with fellow team members and subsequent work could be both indoors and outdoors.

This apprenticeship has expired
