Brief Description
Are you interested in pursuing a career in engineering? FP McCann, based in Leighton Buzzard, are looking for a driven and enthusiastic, Quality Control Technician Apprentice to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for engineering, manufacturing, and precision machining.
Qualifications Required
To be considered for this role you will ideally need to have GCSE grades 9 - 4 (A*- C) in English and maths and a GCSE grades 9 - 4 in Science would be an advantage but not essential.

Personal Qualities
- Interest in engineering, manufacturing, or quality control
- A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved in practical tasks
- Strong attention to detail and a mindset for getting things right first time
- Willingness to learn about quality systems, standards, and BSI-accredited processes
Skills Required
- An interest in engineering, mechanics, electronics or how machinery and equipment work
- A basic understanding of science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) subjects would be beneficial, although this is not essential
- Good problem-solving skills and a logical approach to diagnosing faults
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to work well as part of a team
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous due to the location of the site, although this is not essential

Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician apprenticeship standard
Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths if required

From their thirteen UK manufacturing facilities, FP McCann offers solutions that include architectural and structural solutions, rooms, flooring, fencing, walling, shafts, tunnels, drainage, rail, power and agricultural products. They have worked on a large range of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) projects across the UK. Their in-house Digital Engineering capability has grown in line with government and client expectations.
During your apprenticeship, you will be part of the Technical Team, working under the guidance and support of a dedicated mentor who will help you develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in the role. You will also work closely with colleagues across production, engineering, and quality functions, gaining valuable experience in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
You will begin by learning about FP McCann's products, manufacturing processes, and the services the business provides. As your knowledge and confidence grow, you will carry out product testing and inspections to ensure products consistently meet quality standards and customer specifications. You will learn how to identify defects, investigate quality issues, and support problem-solving activities to help maintain high manufacturing standards.
You will assist the production and engineering teams with day-to-day operations, including supporting material management, stock control, deliveries, and general site activities that contribute to efficient production. You will also gain experience in the safe use, maintenance, and calibration of testing equipment, ensuring all testing is completed in accordance with approved procedures.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop an understanding of quality management systems, industry regulations, and BSI-accredited standards, learning how these frameworks support the production of safe, reliable, and compliant products. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will play an active role in ensuring products are manufactured safely, consistently, and to specification while developing the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for a successful career in quality assurance.
Other Information
The salary for this apprenticeship is based on the National Apprenticeship Rate. However, applicants aged 19 years and over will be considered for an age-related rate of pay.
