Vacancy Detail

Berry Bespoke Design & Build Ltd in Braybrook are looking to take on an Apprentice Bricklayer to join their building and bricklaying team.

They are a small building company working mainly across Market Harborough, Kettering, Lutterworth and the surrounding areas. Most of their work is domestic building work, including extensions, refurbishments, conversions and external works, but they also undertake some commercial projects.

The role would suit someone who is practical, reliable, punctual and keen to build a long-term career in the construction industry.

As an apprentice you will work alongside experienced bricklayers and general builders on a variety of projects. The role will predominantly involve bricklaying, blockwork and general masonry work, but will also include wider building site duties such as small-scale groundworks, drainage, landscaping, concreting, site preparation and general labouring.

The successful candidate will gain hands-on site experience while working towards their bricklaying apprenticeship. You will be supported by experienced tradespeople and will be given the opportunity to develop the practical skills, site knowledge and working habits required to progress in the trade.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

Learning to lay bricks, blocks and stonework to the required standard
Assisting experienced bricklayers with setting out, loading out and preparation work
Mixing mortar and preparing materials
Helping with cavity wall construction, blockwork, brickwork, footings and associated masonry tasks
Assisting with small-scale groundworks, drainage and concrete works
Keeping the work area clean, safe and organised
Moving materials around site safely
Assisting with landscaping and external works where required
Working alongside other trades within the business when needed
Following instructions from experienced team members
Following site health and safety procedures
Building up the skills and experience required to complete the bricklaying apprenticeship

Although the apprenticeship will be focused on bricklaying, the role is not purely limited to laying bricks. The employer are a small company and their work is varied, so you will gain experience in different areas of general building as well as the core bricklaying skills needed for this qualification.

Previous site experience is not essential, as training will be given. However, the role may also suit someone who has already completed a full-time construction or bricklaying course and is now looking for an apprenticeship to continue with training and gain proper site experience.

Due to the nature of the work and the locations of the sites, it is important that you have a reliable way of getting to work. A driving licence and own transport would be ideal, but the employer would also consider applicants who can reliably get themselves to their workshop, to site, or to one of the team members’ agreed pick-up points.

The working day is normally 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, although this can vary slightly depending on site requirements.

This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to learn the bricklaying trade properly while working as part of a small, experienced building team.

Other Information

A reliable way of getting to site, the workshop or an agreed pick-up point is important due to the location of our work.
Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team. Please note this is part of the recruitment process and must be completed in order for your application to be progressed to the next stage.
