Brief Description

Are you looking to become an Engineering Apprentice? Bowman Ingredients in Hitchin, are looking for an apprentice to learn all aspects of on-site engineering. Ranging from Electrical and Mechanical to undertaking mechanical overhaul and maintenance of programmable logic controlled packaging and processing equipment.

Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role you will ideally need to have GCSE grades 9-3 (A*- D) in English and maths or the ability to work towards Level 2 Functional Skills during the programme. Bowman Ingredients specialises in the production of food coatings for customers in the global food processing industry. They support many of the world’s leading retail and foodservice brands though their international network of manufacturing sites and commitment to new product development.

So what will you be learning?

You will be learning the operation and maintenance of all site equipment, and compressed air plant and systems is also an important area of training and development.

Facilities management works will also be covered ranging from lighting and power to all electrical fault finding and installs and working with modern machinery.

You will be involved in supporting the maintenance of production equipment, including routine maintenance and repairs, and facilities, with the aim of ensuring the safe running of the factory.

You will be involved in preventative maintenance schemes, breakdowns repairs and site services.

The maintenance team is actively involved in LEAN maintenance and focused improvement work to improved plant reliability. This involves working with the operators and managers to solve problems and implement changes to improve quality, reliability, safety and reduce cost.

Course duration 4 years, Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team and complete an online Maths and English test which will be sent out prior to your initial interview if you meet the entry criteria. Please note this is part of the recruitment process and must be completed in order for your application to be progressed to the next stage.
