Brief Description

The Apprentice will undertake the varied work within our Engineering team, to learn the skills of a Production Engineer. Providing engineering production support for a specific product or group of products to meet customer design specifications.

Qualifications Required

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 including English, maths and science , or equivalent, or a technical subject such as engineering or product design. Alternatively you can progress from a relevant Level 2 Intermediate apprenticeship programme.

Vacancy Detail

The Apprentice will undertake the varied work within our Engineering team, to learn the skills of a Production Engineer. Providing engineering production support for a specific product or group of products to meet customer design specifications. Learn to develop and sustain process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yield, with the opportunity to progress to other areas within the business.

You will work towards the responsibility of a Production Engineer, with support working on the following tasks:

• Converting customers’ requirements into OSI Electronics UK format and the translation of build data onto the company ERP system
• Bills of Material
• Routing.
• Creating assembly instructions.
• Manage the engineering change process.
• Support production with process and quality issues.
• Implement process improvements where justified.
• Provide design support to customers and assist with quotes.
• Learn how to communicate with customers to aid with design for manufacture and build requirements.


Assistance with quotations

• Participate in meetings with potential customers on or off-site providing an insight into our capabilities.
• Analysis of customer requirements to ensure we have the capability to provide the manufacturing service requested.

New Product Introduction

• Liaise with customer / internal customer program manager as appropriate, working to project deadlines.
• Preparation of BOMs and product-specific Routes using the company ERP system.
• Create process machine programs, build instructions, drawings and design and order tooling required for projects.

Production Support

• Assist in the order review process (contract review).
• Assist and guide the production team on the use of instructions and tooling.
• Manage/perform planned preventative maintenance.

Engineering Change Process

• Update BOMs, Routes, machine programs and work instructions according to the quality management system ensuring the appropriate areas of the business are aware.

Process Improvement – new ideas!

• Review existing processes on a regular basis and implement improvements.
• Review, evaluate and justify new equipment.

Quality Support

• Assist with process defect analysis including 8D reviews.
• Assist with external audits.

Basic Design Support

• Analysis of customer data to provision of DFM improvement suggestions.
• Investigation of substitute or replacement components.
