Brief Description
The role will be based at The Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden Aerodrome. The successful applicant will support our small engineering team carry out the restoration, overhaul and maintenance of over 50 historic airworthy aircraft.
Qualifications Required
Applicants should have GCSE A-C or 9-4 in Maths, English, Science and a practical subject such as CDT or Design and Realization
Personal Qualities
Applicants should demonstrate an interest in engineering and aviation. Applicants should be able and willing to follow instructions and learn new skills, they should also have appropriate interpersonal skills.
Skills Required
Applicants should able to plan and organise to meet deadlines, able to work under supervision.
Work to close tolerances and show attention to details
Training to be Provided
Engineering Maintenance NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, EAL Engineering Technology Level 3 Diploma, BTEC or VRQ. Plus English, maths and ICT Functional Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. You will study a range of topics including: Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement

upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, our intention is to offer a permanent role (although this cannot be guaranteed)
Vacancy Detail
The Shuttleworth Collection is based at Old Warden Aerodrome near Biggleswade. It is home to a unique collection of over 50 historic airworthy aircraft spanning the years from the dawn of aviation , through both world wars and up to the 1950's. We carry out the maintenance, overhaul and restoration of our aircraft and aero engines 'in house'
We are looking for a trainee to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will learn woodwork and fabric covering skills, sheet metal repairs, engine repair and overhaul skills as well as airframe and engine inspection procedures.
The role will be based at The Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden Aerodrome. The successful applicant will support our small engineering team carry out the restoration, overhaul and maintenance of over 50 historic airworthy aircraft.
Other Information
This role will involve long periods of being on your feet and will be carried out in a workshop environment and on the airfield.
During the airshow season (May-Oct) the role will include some weekend work involving the operation of the Collections aircraft at home and external airshows.
