At the end of the apprenticeship programme, subject to progression and the needs of the business, there will be the opportunity for continuing employment as a Manufacturing Engineer, where you will be able to gain further experience and, possibly progressing on to become a Field Service Engineer with your own van. Attending customer factories for planned maintenance or emergency breakdown services.

UK Inspection Systems Ltd is a small, engineering company that manufactures a range of in-line inspection machinery and ancillary equipment used in the food industry; this includes metal detectors, checkweighers (which look for weight accuracy) X-ray machines and scales. The company also provides field engineering support for a range of own brand and competitor equipment.
Established in 2009, the Company was founded on the provision of field engineering support, but in 2017 they acquired a company that specialised in the manufacture of foreign body detection and weighing equipment. Since then, they have developed and manufacture their own range of specialist equipment which they supply to some of the UK’s major food production brands.
They are pleased to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Mechatronic Engineering Apprentice with a fast growing machinery manufacturer and service provider to the food manufacturing industry.
The Company has a head office and sales/service centre in Hampshire, and a manufacturing centre in Rushden, Northants and they are looking for one Engineering Apprentice, based in the Rushden or surrounding area.
The role will initially be focussed on the manufacture of own brand machinery and refurbishment of other (competitor) equipment. However, there may be an opportunity to progress into the role of field service engineer.
Following your initial induction training and, as an Apprentice, you will undertake a programme of supervised manufacturing activities, which will include machine building (mechanical), machine wiring (electrical), machine testing and fault finding.
Alongside this, you will receive industry specialist training on metal detection theory, Packaged Goods Regulations, Industry Codes of Practice and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). You may also spend time on-site, working alongside experienced engineers, to gain all round experience within the food machinery industry.
You will follow their own in-house training programme. Your time will be divided between gaining practical experience at their manufacturing centre, and classroom-based learning at Bedford College, the apprenticeship training provide.

Due to the site-based nature of this role, you will need to be 18+ to apply.
You must be able to make your own way to the production facility in Rushden.
Due to the nature of the role, you should be comfortable with, and capable of, manual handling tasks and working at height.
You must be willing and able to work overtime as and when required Ideally, in order that you may eventually progress to a Field Engineer, you will possess a full driving licence or intend to work towards this.
