Vacancy Detail
St John’s School and College caters from Early Years to Post 16 where many of their pupils who attend the school have severe and complex learning difficulties. The school has a dedicated and skilled staff team who are committed to providing a stimulating positive learning environment for all students. They aim to develop the multitude of skills the pupils have, to enable them to explore their talents and to prepare them for lifelong learning and their future lives. Their curriculum is personalised and is divided into different pathways to ensure each pupil receives the curriculum best suited to their needs. The facilities at St John’s include a hydrotherapy pool, an Interactive Sound and Light room, dedicated ICT facilities, nature garden, rumpus room and a food technology room.
As a Learning Support Assistant Apprentice your role is to support teaching staff and pupils in a wide range of activities during the school day. The apprentice will be working with individual pupils as well as groups of pupils with severe learning difficulties. Part of the role will include assisting with classroom and general school display work, supervising pupils at playtime/ break times as well as at pickup/transport times, contributing towards the physical education of pupils including swimming and PE and accompany pupils on educational visits and journeys. You will also attend regular after school staff meetings, training and inductions and support the personal and social aspects of teaching for example working with pupils on eating programmes and toilet training.
Staff benefits include a pay rise to £11,542.70 after the apprentice has been with the school for a year and a half.
Other Information
This is a term time only role. The job is extremely rewarding, however can also be very challenging at times and requires people who are prepared to give 110 %.
This job includes assisting learners when swimming.
