Brief Description

Is landscaping and gardening your passion? Wellingborough Bereavement Services are looking for someone to join their team. They have 11 acres of land and need an apprentice who has imagination and creative skills to work alongside the head gardener and help improve the grounds of the crematorium.

Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role you will need to have GCSE grades 9-3 (A*- D) or equivalent, in English and maths.

Training to be Provided

Level 2 Apprenticeship in either Horticulture or Landscape Operative. Plus: Emegency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Safe use of handling and application of pesticides, Functional Skills in English & maths (if required). You will also study a range of topics to include: Health and Safety, Business Skills, Machinery, Plant and Soil Science, Plant health

Future Prospects

Possibility of progression or a full time position may be offered on successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Vacancy Detail

This is a unique opportunity.
You will be helping to change the look of the employers 11 acre landscape by improving and helping with new ideas for the memorial gardens. You will be maintaining the flower tribute courtyard area to a high standard. Removing dead flowers from the gardens of remembrance and maintaining the grounds.

You must be passionate about all things green and be creative. You need to have the ability to follow instructions to ensure duties are completed in a timely fashion. These include, cutting grass, leaf blowing, hedge trimming, planting flowers, shrubs and trees, using strimmer, weeding and any other horticultural duties.

You will be assisting with the disposal of ashes on occasion including helping with a short service where required.

Occasionally you may be asked to help out in the office. This will consist of carrying out a few admin tasks such as taking bookings, and dealing with general enquires and providing a good level of customer service.

You will take part in team meetings and one two one meetings to ensure the continual improvement of the service delivered to customers and the working environment.

Other Information

You will need to attend Shuttleworth College on a Wednesday from 9am to 4.30pm during term time so please consider how you will get to Shuttleworth College in Biggleswade.

You will learn all about the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s Guiding Principles, undertaking training in the operation of the cremators under the guidance of the cremator operator and take the ICCM’s.

Working hours will be on a rota basis.
