Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role you will ideally need to have GCSE grades 9-3 (A*- D) in English and maths.

At the end of the apprenticeship the employer hopes the candidate would be able to do any task needed in the manufacture of products from initial cutting of materials to machining, welding, fabricating, assembling, painting and dispatching of goods to customers.
And a full time position on successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Vacancy Detail

Astwell Augers in Thrapston are a family run business they design and engineer auger systems for farms and factories and they offer spares and ancillary equipment to a loyal following of farmers and dealers. Auger is a tool resembling a large corkscrew, for boring holes.

Your role with them would consist of cutting tubes for the centres and outers of the augers using an electric band saw and machining on a lathe. You will be welding augers onto the tubes onto outer tubes, fabricating parts to make the end units and assembling the fabricated parts together to make up an auger as well as other machines.

You will be painting parts in the spray booth before assembly and dispatching machines that have been built up.

In time the employer would like the you to learn all aspects of what the company do so that you are able to build an auger from the initial raw materials to a complete unit, as well as knowing how it works, so if a customer has a problem, you can put it right.

Other Information

The company are located on the westbound side of the A14 at Thrapston which can be difficult to get to without a car though they can be reached by cycling via a back lane from Denford.
