Qualifications Required

GCSE standard in English and Maths (grade A* - C/ 9 - 4 or above) or equivalent

Skills Required

• Basic awareness and understanding of basic mental health problems, and its impact on patient’s behaviour.
• Assist the Social Therapist and other ward staff to carry out routine work procedures under the instruction and supervision of senior staff.
• Awareness of the standards of professional behaviour expected on the ward by the Trust.
• Having good organisational skills and being able to engage with the other workers and service users.
• Being able to communicate effectively and use initiative
• Ability to undertake physical tasks involved patient care
• Ability to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills
• Good verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Word-processing/IT skills.

This position will be for a support worker within a female ward of the mental health unit of the NHS as a social therapist/support worker. If you are interested, apply here!!!

The apprentice will assist all ward-based staff to encourage service users to meet and spend time with other people for therapeutic purposes, to reduce feelings of isolation and to aid the recovery process.

To support the Social Therapists/Associate Nurse with every day care of service users and to observe the assessment and care plan process; observe CPA’s ward reviews, Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers Hearings .

To provide support with individual and group activities with the service users on the ward to aid in their recovery and awareness.

• To learn, understand and acknowledge the right of those patients who use Mental Health Services in accordance with the Policies and procedures of the Trust, the Mental Health Act Code of Practice (1993) and the Mental Health Services Charter (1997).

Other Information

This position is working within the mental health sector. You will be required to work directly with the patients and/or clients. You may be required to deal with distressing and challenging situations in a sensitive and non-threatening way to reduce anxieties and promote effective resolutions, but will be expected tp seek support from ward staff immediately.
You will at no time be left on your own, and will constantly have a mentor training you within this position.
