Brief Description

Wellingborough Bereavement Services are looking for a new apprentice. This is an exciting opportunity to assist the head gardener in cutting grass, landscaping, leaf blowing, hedge trimming, planting flowers, shrubs, trees, and trimming You will also receive a qualification with the Institute of Cemetery Cremation Management.

Qualifications Required

To be considered for this role you will need to have Grade 9 - 3 (A*- D) or above in GCSE maths and English
Or equivalent in functional skills.

Training to be Provided

Level 2 Apprenticeship in either Horticulture or Landscape Operative. Plus: Emegency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Safe use of handling and application of pesticides, Functional Skills in English & maths (if required). You will also study a range of topics to include: Health and Safety, Business Skills, Machinery, Plant and Soil Science, Plant health

Possibility of progression or a full-time position may be offered on successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Vacancy Detail

For this apprenticeship you will be required to attend Shuttleworth College twice a month which is based in Old Warden, Central Bedfordshire. Attending this College will help you achieve the Horticulture and Landscaping qualification.

In the job role -

•You will undertake a development programme including -
participation in required mentoring/training and learning which will lead to an apprenticeship qualification.

•You will assist the Head Gardener with the maintenance of the memorial gardens within the Garden of Remembrance (site) and possess the ability to provide high standards of work. In addition, you will support your line manager in contributing towards landscape schemes, as well as working on a wide range of horticultural duties as described, including the application of chemicals, including herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.

•You must be equally passionate about all things green, focused on outcomes and reporting directly to the head gardener. You need to have the ability to follow instructions to ensure duties are completed in a timely fashion. These include, cutting grass, leaf blowing, hedge trimming, planting flowers, shrubs and trees, using strimmer, weeding and any other horticultural duties.

•Assisting with cleaning duties throughout the crematorium complex you will help maintain the flower tribute courtyard area to a high standard - removing dead flowers from the gardens of remembrance and maintain memorials in good order.

•Taking an involved role in team meetings and one to one meetings to ensure the continual improvement of the service delivered to customers and the working environment, undertaking such other duties appropriate to the post as may reasonably be required by the employer in compliance with the contract of employment.

Please note that you will also receive full training in cremation duties which will lead to you becoming fully qualified by the ICCM which is the Institute of Cemetery Cremation Management. All staff are required to take this training.

You will also be given time to study at home.
