Brief Description

Starting in September 2020, this is a four year advanced apprenticeship. As an Engineering Technician Apprentice you will ensure that equipment is maintained to a standard necessary for the production of high value manufactured products

Qualifications Required

The applicant should be educated to a minimum of GCSE level with 5 GCSEs achieved / predicted at A* - C or 9 - 4 grade in maths, English and science (or equivalent).

Personal Qualities

The applicant must be driven and committed to achieve with a keen sense for problem solving and being hands on with equipment with a willingness to learn and take instruction.
You should have an enthusiastic and genuine interest in engineering and be willing to study an Advanced Apprenticeship. The applicant should also be flexible and adaptable to be able to work within any production unit in the Plant.

Skills Required

Strong problem solving skills is essential for you to be successful, as well as the ability to work independently and also as a part of a high performing team.

Training to be Provided

During this Apprenticeship, you will undertake the Standard for Engineering Technician Level 3
Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
• Foundation Competence – EAL Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
• Gateway Assessment on completion of Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
• Development Competence – EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering - Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
• Development Knowledge – Pearsons Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
• College attendance
• Regular visits from the College into the workplace
• Observations and assessments in the workplace
• Use of e-portfolio
• Independent End Point Assessment on completion of employer sign off of competence
• Ongoing support and training from both College and the employer
• Functional Skills qualifications (if required)

Future Prospects

Successful completion of the Apprenticeship could lead to full time employment at Vauxhall Motors as a qualified Maintenance Technician

Vacancy Detail

Starting in September 2020, this is a four year advanced apprenticeship. As an Engineering Technician Apprentice at IBC Vehicles Manufacturing Plant, you will ensure that equipment is maintained to a standard necessary for the production of high value manufactured products.
Typically the work covers a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviors across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.
This is a four year advanced apprenticeship.

Year 1 – 5 days a week in College completing a level 2 foundation competency qualification, starting a level 3 knowledge qualification and a 3-day gateway assessment at the end of the year.

Year 2 – 1 day a week in College, 4 days in the workplace. The day in College is to complete the level 3 knowledge qualification.

Year 3 – 5 days a week in the workplace compiling evidence to demonstrate competency.

Year 4 – 5 days a week in the workplace compiling evidence to demonstrate competency and an end point assessment.

Other Information

Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team and complete an online maths and English test which will be sent out prior to your initial interview if you meet the entry criteria. Please note this is part of the recruitment process and must be completed in order for your application to be progressed to the next stage.

The vacancy will be working in the manufacturing plant and will involve shift work.

Ability to travel within Bedfordshire area is necessary as the workplace will be in Luton however training is provided in Bedford
