Brief Description

Train with our current mechanical engineer to eventually become the main in house fabricator.

Qualifications Required

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4, ideally including English, maths and science, or equivalent or a technical based subject such as engineering or product design. Alternatively you can progress from a relevant Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship programme.

Personal Qualities

The applicant should be able to fit in with a team and be able to work independantly. have a technical aptitude and be able to think of solutions. The applicant should want to workand have an ambition to become a real qualified engineer.

Skills Required

An aptitude for mechanics whether it's working on bicycles, engines or vehicles, etc. Having used simple hand tools in a home or hobby or academic environment.

Training to be Provided

Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, EAL Engineering Technology Level 3 Diploma, BTEC or VRQ. Plus English, maths and ICT Functional Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. You will study a range of topics including: Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement, Advanced Milling

We would like this apprentice to become our main mechanical engineer for in house maintenance and fabrication.

The job involves maintaining our automotive, mechanical and survey equipment (winches, and seismic energy sources, rugged mil spec field instruments). Also fabricating and fitting using hand tools, mill, lath, welder, grinders, potting and gluing in plastics and metals. Also CAD modeling (solidworks). The applicant will be trained to HND level Mech Eng and work alongside our current fabricator to complement our workshop of electronic engineers.

Detailed Job Description

The job involves :-
1. Maintaining our automotive, mechanical and survey equipment (winches, and seismic energy sources, rugged mil spec field instruments).
2. Fabrication work will be involved
3. Fitting & assembling work will be elements of the role
4. Using hand tools – grinders etc …
5. Operating Milling & Lath machines
6. Operating different welding equipment we have in our workshop
7. Potting and gluing in plastics and metals.
8. Working with CAD modelling software (Solidworks).”

Other Information

Travel to the work address should be considered. We want an apprentice who is willing to spend the years working towards completion of the apprenticeship.
