Brief Description

This apprenticeship post will expand the current technical team and contribute to a number of long-term research projects, working collegiately with academic, research and technical staff within the Energy and Power theme.

Qualifications Required

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 including English, maths and science , or equivalent, or a technical subject such as engineering or product design. Alternatively you can progress from a relevant Level 2 Intermediate apprenticeship programme.

Training to be Provided

Engineering Maintenance NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, EAL Engineering Technology Level 3 Diploma, BTEC or VRQ. Plus English, maths and ICT Functional Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. You will study a range of topics including: Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement

Whilst a permanent post cannot be guaranteed, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the candidate would be offered a role within the technical team.

This apprenticeship post will expand the current technical team and contribute to a number of long-term research projects, working collegiately with academic, research and technical staff within the Energy and Power theme. The tasks will vary widely, and so candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills, have a ‘can-do’ attitude and be able to work to tight deadlines as part of a team.

The primary role is to successfully complete an apprenticeship development programme leading to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in “Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician”.

You will work alongside and support experienced technical team members and learn a variety of skills, having the opportunity to specialise in one or more of our processes as the apprenticeship progresses. Day-to-day tasks will include the observation and assistance of senior technical staff, with the opportunity to gradually become more hands-on as you develop your skills and knowledge.

Our technical team deliver flexible premier technical support to Energy and Power stakeholders, each utilising specialist technical skills to deliver funded research work, working in partnership with technical colleagues of all levels to ensure effective operation of the Theme as a whole.

Key Deliverables:

To complete successful training over the apprenticeship in the following areas:-
• providing technical support to Energy and Power stakeholders engaging in research and teaching activities,
• developing knowledge of relevant methods, procedures and practices
• undertaking a range of core, and other, tasks to support stakeholders to the successful operation of Energy and Power. This forms the ‘on the job’ training including supporting funded research work.

Other Information

The role will involve tasks where the post holder may need to stand for long periods of time or carry out repeated movements

This role is based in a University environment which includes industrial size machinery and facilities.
