Brief Description

Responsible for making different types of parts to enable the production processes to be as efficient as possible. This may include jigs, fixtures, clamps or molds to obtain a more robust consistently produced part that meets the specification of the cust

Qualifications Required

GCSE Grades A-C (9-4) in English Maths Science.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills. It is essential that you work well as part of a team as well as working on nyour initiative.

Skills Required

This is an entry level position so skills will be taught however a keen interest in engineering is a must. Use of basic power tools would be helpful.

Training to be Provided

Engineering Maintenance NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, EAL Engineering Technology Level 3 Diploma, BTEC or VRQ. Plus English, maths and ICT Functional Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. You will study a range of topics including: Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement

Vacancy Detail

Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems. Ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements. Help and Assist with implemented planned schedule of maintenance and repair activity. Maintain the storage of parts to facilitate highest standards within the department for good housekeeping, health, safety and environmental. Ensure all stock items and spares are organised. Manufacture new parts from technical drawings to a high level of workmanship and in an efficient, cost effective manner. Undertake continuous training and development.

On a daily basis you may be asked to:
• Support a planned programme to maintain our trimmers, punches, expander blocks etc.
• Identify spare part requirements and maintain supplier details.
• Manage the spare parts store (expander shafts, gears, etc.) and ensure parts are kept at a minimum level.
• Develop jigs and new tooling
• Review and update equipment drawings with any changes.
• Follow safe working Health and Safety practices

Must be within a commutable distance to Letchworth.

Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team and complete an online Maths and English test which will be sent out prior to your initial interview if you meet the entry criteria.
