Brief Description

The apprentice will be required to perform a variety of activities in order to assist in the manufacture of components and ducting for use in the aerospace industry.

Qualifications Required

5 GCSE's A*-C's (9-4) including maths, english and science.

Training to be Provided

• General sheet metal skills, including use of:-
- Guillotines, rolling machines, bench shears, various air tools as well as marking out techniques, fitting and weld shrinkage allowances & weld distortion removal
• General welding skills, including use of
- TIG welding equipment, seam and spot welding equipment & tube welding equipment
• General machining skills, including the ability to operate various machines, such as:-
- Lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, CNC tube bending machines
• General bellows manufacturing skills, including use of:-
- Various bellows forming machines, hydraulic presses & rolling machines
• Pressure testing, including use of:-
- Pressure test equipment, high pressure pumps, hand operated cranes and hoists
• Cleaning and Part marking, including use of:-
- Various part marking printers / chemi-etch equipment & ultrasonic cleaning tanks
• General Brazing skills, including use of:-
- Brazing torches, regulators, flash back arrestors, acetylene and oxygen cylinders
• Use of Computers to access information held on the IT network
• Understanding and working to engineering drawings and specifications

The apprentice will be required to perform a variety of activities in order to assist in the manufacture of components and ducting for use in the aerospace industry.
To work in a supported learning environment to develop the skills and knowledge which will assist the apprentice to complete their required training to secure employment and progression in their career within the company.
Apprentices will be employed on a full-time basis, combining both hands-on training together with day release for college based studies to achieve a recognised industry standard qualification.

The following is a list of potential duties to be undertaken on a daily basis upon completion of the apprenticeship:-
• Undertake sheet metal work (assembley & development of complex ducting systems using SMW skills)
• Undertake TIG welding activities
• Operate a variety of machinery
• Undertake Seam, Spot and Tube welding activities
• Assist in Bellows manufacturing
• Undertake Tube bending activities
• Undertake Brazing activities
• Assist in the Cleaning and part marking cell
• Assist in the design of production fixtures and jigs
• Utilise a range of measuring devices for the above tasks
• Recognise hazards and minimise risks to avoid injury
