Brief Description

Assist Engineers in carrying out condition and measured surveys and complete reports. Learn basic Auto cad skill for the production of drawings. Measure and produce Bills of Quantities

Qualifications Required

Four GCSE’s at grade A*- C (including Maths & Science), or a level 2 diploma in a construction trade.

Personal Qualities

Be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people.

Be well organised and able to meet deadlines.

Must enjoy working with others as part of a team.

Must be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions.

Skills Required

Must have an interest in a career in highways inspection and civil engineering in general.

Appreciate the importance of health and safety, and PPE (personal protective equipment) when working on highways.

• To assist in carrying out condition and measured surveys of highway and drainage assets.
• Assist in compiling reports and drawings based on the surveys.
• Assist in producing specifications, drawings and bills of quantities for highways, drainage, structures and street lighting projects
• Produce simple drawings in Auto CAD
• Assist in processing the passage of abnormal loads along the Council’s highways

• Introduction to standards and technical design documents.
• Introduction to Auto CAD

This position attracts the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices
£8.21 per hour (if 25 or over)
£7.70 per hour (if aged 21 to 24 years)
£6.15 per hour (if aged 18 – 20 years)
£4.35 per hour (if under 18 years but above the compulsory school age)

Other Information

• Work is partially based outdoors.
• Work is carried out within the Highway
• Directions on Personal Protective Equipment and traffic management must be followed at all times
