Vacancy Detail

Cranfield University are currently looking for an Apprentice Electrician to join their maintenance team. This training position will develop you to have competence in providing a repair and maintenance service as required, for all electrical infrastructure including lighting, small power, electrical distribution, electrical supplies, alarms and controls.

The training will also include learning how to carry out minor upgrade or refurbishment works along with the installation of fixtures, fittings and appliances for a variety of customers. Successfully completing this training will lead to an Electrical Installation Advanced Level 3 Certificate.

As an Apprentice you will be part of a busy team and would be working in a variety of working environments interacting with work colleagues, contractors and members of the public. You will require a good standard of numeracy and literacy; have good communication skills both written and verbal; be able to work as part of a team; use your own initiative and be enthusiastic to learn new skills/tasks. Holding a full current driving licence or being willing\ have plans to learn would be an advantage.


The primary role is to successfully complete an apprenticeship development programme leading to a Level 3 Electrical Installation Advanced Apprenticeship . This training position will develop you to have competence in providing a repair and maintenance service as required, for all electrical infrastructure including lighting, small power, electrical distribution, electrical supplies, alarms and controls.

Key Deliverables

To complete successful training over the apprenticeship in the following aspects of technical and installation of electrical work:-

• Causes of malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components
• Survey, inspection and testing of circuits in electrical distribution, equipment and fixtures
• Hazard, defect and adjustment identification and repair
• Modification and installation of electrical equipment distribution, appliances, apparatus, fixtures and fittings
• Engineering drawings and using a variety of instruments and techniques
• Materials identification, scheduling and requisition

To undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post and provide support and assistance to other members of the Facilities Maintenance Team/University employed contractors as required.

To be trained in the efficient use of information technology systems for timesheets and work orders.

To participate in team meetings, 121’s and other appropriate events

To maintain general good housekeeping of the workplace

Other Information

Holding a full current driving licence or being willing/have plans to learn to drive would be an advantage.
