Brief Description

Apprentice test technician training in the assembly and test of micro-electronic parts using small hand tools, under a microscope.

Qualifications Required

GCSE English, Maths and Science A-C or 9-4
Suitable candidates will be educated to either A level or good GCSE standard as a minimum, with a bias towards science and technology. Day release to attend college with a view to achieving HNC level may be available to the right candidate.

Personal Qualities

Mature and self disciplined. The work environment is relaxed and requires good self-motivation

Skills Required

An interest and basic knowledge of electronics and excellent manual dexterity

SMS Ltd has an immediate vacancy for a test and assembly technician, to join a small friendly team designing and manufacturing micro-electronic components and assemblies for the Aerospace and Defence markets.

Your work will involve learning how to :-

1. Assemble micro-electronic devices by hand
2. Using small hand tools and working under a microscope
3. Learning how to test components
4. Fault find and optimise products, using a wide range of test equipment.
5. The apprentice will have to develop, a high degree of manual dexterity which will become an essential skill.
6. Having a desire & willingness to learn new skills.

Other Information

Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team and complete an online Maths and English test which will be sent out prior to your initial interview if you meet the entry criteria.
