Brief Description

We seek to appoint a presentable, "hands on" person who would like to pursue a career in grounds maintenance. You must be able to carry out physical work and be happy to work outside in all weathers.

Qualifications Required

Educated to grades A – D (9 – 3) or equivalent in English and Maths

Personal Qualities

Essential:

• Educated to grades A – D (9 – 3) or equivalent in English and maths
• Motivated and organised
• Passion for horticulture/gardening
• Positive attitude to work
• Must be able to work well on your own as well as part of a team
• Possess a polite and helpful manner
• Willingness to learn

Desirable:
• Full driving licence
• Hedge cutting, strimming and mower experience

Training to be Provided

During this apprenticeship you will study a range of topics, which could include:

•Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
•Maintaining and developing personal performance
•Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others
•Clearing horticultural and landscaping sites
•Maintain moisture levels for crops or plants
•Provide nutrients to crops or plants

Other units will vary depending on which pathway you choose to follow.

Qualifications

You will gain the following qualifications:
Work-Based Horticulture City & Guilds/NPTC Level 2 Diploma

•Employment Rights and Responsibilities
•Functional Skills in English and maths.

You will also have the opportunity to take additional qualifications including Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1), Cylinder and Rotary Operated Pedestrian Mowers, Chainsaw and Related Operations, Safe Use of Hedge Trimmers and more.

Future Prospects

Successfully complete the Apprenticeship to fully equipment them to attain a career in horticulture/gardening or expand upon their learning to explore the next steps such as Sports turf.

Vacancy Detail

We seek to appoint a presentable, "hands on" person who would like to pursue a career in grounds maintenance. You must be able to carry out physical work and be happy to work outside in all weathers. The position will include working within our established small team to provide assistance in maintaining the grounds at both the Senior and Preparatory School.

The Grounds Maintenance Apprentice will undertake all duties within the grounds team in accordance with our work schedule and ensure all areas are left clean and tidy after work is completed, complying with Health & Safety procedures. You must be prepared to undertake training in addition to attending college one day per week.

General day to day duties will include:

• Grass cutting.
• Planting
• Pruning
• Leaf collection
• Lifting and moving bulky items
• Sweeping
• Operating all vehicles, machinery and equipment in a safe manner.

Other Information

This is a physical role working outside in all weathers.
