Brief Description

Working in a fast paced environment ensuring that people are registered to vote and then involved in the complex organisation involved for all levels of elections from national parliamentary, referenda, to local Mayoral, Borough and Parish Elections.

Qualifications Required

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs A*-C/9-4 including English and maths.

Personal Qualities

Demonstrate enthusiasm to learn and develop in the apprentice role.

Must be reliable and punctual, understanding the unique timetable of elections and electoral registration during the year.

Must be able to demonstrate an adaptable and flexible approach to work including working extended hours and weekends prior to an election and during a similar period during the household canvass period each autumn time.

In the pre-election period some late night working may be required.

Good verbal and written communication skills and good numeracy and data analysis skills.

Must be computer literate with ability to input and extract data accurately from those systems.

Must be able to work effectively as part of a team, assist that team to achieve its deadlines and participate in pro-active community engagement activities organised by the Unit.

Must be able to carry out routine clerical and general administrative tasks and to work to prescribed procedures.

Must be committed to good customer service, be able to deal with customers who may be agitated and have respect for the diverse community served by Bedford Borough Council.

Training to be Provided

Full support to become a valuable and knowledgeable member of the team.

Future Prospects

As part of the apprenticeship there could be the opportunity for a secondment to work with an expanding company who develop computer software to key services in the public sector including Democratic Services.

The successful candidate will be supported with career advice to enable them to apply for permanent vacancies within the Council.

Wages

£7.83 per hour (if 25 and over)
£7.38 per hour (if aged 21 - 24 years)
£5.90 per hour (if aged 18 – 20 years)
£4.20 per hour (if under 18 years but above the compulsory school age)
